LEGAL HD SHOWS TENANTS HOW TO START A HOUSING DISREPAIR CLAIM
· Another example of the guidance tenants can find online is Legal HD’s
housing disrepair page. It tells tenants that, if they have
reported a problem and it remains unresolved after a reasonable time, they may
be able to start a claim.
· Legal HD says it can seek repairs and compensation for costs and inconvenience.
It also tells tenants to keep dates, photographs and evidence of when they
reported the problem. That is exactly the kind of record a landlord needs to be
able to check against their own.
·
The scope matters:
Legal HD says it helps tenants of councils and housing associations and does not
accept claims against private landlords. This example shows how
tenants are being guided through the claims process; it should not be presented
as Legal HD pursuing claims against private letting agencies.
·
The question for landlords and
agents remains: if someone challenges how a repair was handled, can you show when
it was reported, what action followed and when the work was completed?
